Introduction & Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the mobile application Refresh Rate Checker (Package Name:
com.jeweality.refreshratechecker), created, distributed, and maintained by
JEWEALITY (led by developer Mahesh Varma), hereinafter referred to as "we", "us", or "our".
We are committed to maintaining the trust of our users. Our core guiding philosophy is that a display utility benchmark does not need to harvest your private personal information to perform its duties. This document explains what information is processed, why it is processed, how it is secured, and your legal rights regarding data transparency under applicable laws including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), and the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement.
By installing, accessing, or using Refresh Rate Checker, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the practices described in this Privacy Policy.
Information We Do Not Collect
Unlike applications that monetize user data profiles, Refresh Rate Checker does not collect, sell, or exchange your personal information. Specifically:
- No Personal Identifiers: We do not collect or request your name, email address, postal address, phone number, or government identifiers.
- No User Account or Login: You do not need to register, create a username, or sign in through any social network or third-party service.
- No Precise Geolocation: We never access or request GPS location permissions (
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATIONorACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION). - No Media or File Access: We do not inspect your photos, media, files, camera feed, or microphone audio.
- No Contact or Keystroke Tracking: We have no access to your address book, SMS messages, phone logs, or screen interaction outside of our application container.
Diagnostic Data Processed Locally (On-Device)
To provide accurate display benchmarking and hardware diagnostics, the app reads and calculates specific technical metrics. All diagnostic calculations are executed locally on your Android device in volatile memory:
| Data Category | Exact Parameters | Purpose & Mechanism |
|---|---|---|
| Display Hardware Specs | Refresh Rate (e.g., 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, 144Hz, 240Hz), Supported Modes, Screen Resolution, Physical Density | Read via official Android Display.getMode() and Display.getSupportedModes() APIs to inform the user of their hardware capabilities. |
| Frame Delivery Rate (FPS) | Frame timestamps, Average FPS, Minimum FPS, Maximum FPS | Measured dynamically using Android's Choreographer.postFrameCallback to capture real-time rendering cadence during the test benchmark. |
| Stability & Jitter | Stability percentage, estimated dropped frames, average frame delivery time (ms) | Computed mathematically using timestamp variance between consecutive vsync signals during active benchmarks. |
This diagnostic data is used exclusively to display live benchmark graphs and summary stats on your screen. It is never transmitted to external servers operated by JEWEALITY.
Local Storage & User Control
The app allows users to preserve test results and customize their benchmark experience. This information is saved strictly within the app's protected sandbox storage:
- Test History Log: When the "Auto Save Results" option is enabled, completed tests (date, time, duration, average FPS, min/max FPS, and stability rating) are stored in an on-device local database.
- User Preferences: User settings such as test duration (3 seconds, 5 seconds, or 10 seconds), haptic feedback preference, and "Keep Screen On" toggle are saved using Android Jetpack DataStore / SharedPreferences.
Advertising & Third-Party Services
To offer Refresh Rate Checker free of charge, we partner with reputable third-party advertising and consent management services. These services may collect certain device-level information as detailed below:
1. Google AdMob (Google LLC)
We integrate Google AdMob to display banner advertisements. Google AdMob may collect and process:
- Device Identifiers: Mobile advertising identifiers such as Google Advertising ID (AAID / GAID).
- Technical Data: IP address (used for approximate coarse location for localized ad selection and fraud prevention), device model, manufacturer, operating system version, and mobile network carrier.
- Diagnostic & Performance Data: Ad display metrics, user interactions with ads, and crash logs to measure ad campaign performance and combat invalid traffic.
Google uses this data in accordance with their privacy policies. You can learn more and manage Google's ad personalization settings at:
https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads
2. Google User Messaging Platform (UMP) SDK
In compliance with European Economic Area (EEA), UK, and Swiss data regulations (GDPR), and US state privacy regulations (such as CCPA/CPRA), we integrate the Google UMP SDK.
- When opening the app in applicable regions, a consent dialogue allows you to choose whether to consent to personalized ads, non-personalized ads, or vendor cookies.
- You can modify or withdraw your consent at any time by navigating to the app's Settings > Privacy Options.
3. Authorized Digital Ads (app-ads.txt)
In adherence to IAB Tech Lab standards and Google AdMob verification requirements, our authorized seller status is published in our official app-ads.txt file under Publisher ID: pub-9831459193159283.
Android App Permissions Explained
In full transparency, here is the complete breakdown of every permission declared in our AndroidManifest.xml and the exact reason each is required:
Required to load advertisements from Google AdMob servers and query consent states from Google UMP. The core refresh rate benchmark operates completely without internet connectivity.
Allows the app to check whether a working internet connection is active before requesting ad assets, preventing unnecessary background retries and saving device battery.
Enables optional tactile haptic feedback when a refresh rate benchmark starts and concludes. Can be toggled off at any time in Settings.
Data Retention & Permanent Erasure
We maintain minimal data footprints in accordance with the principle of data minimization:
- Local Test Data: Benchmark records remain on your device until you manually delete individual items, clear all history via app settings, or clear the app's storage in Android Settings.
- App Uninstallation: Uninstalling the application immediately and irreversibly deletes the local SQLite/Room database and all preference files managed by the app.
- Advertising Data: Data collected by Google AdMob is retained according to Google's standard data retention schedules (typically pseudonymized after predefined inactivity windows).
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
Refresh Rate Checker is a general-audience technical diagnostic tool. It is not targeted toward or designed to attract children under the age of 13 (or under 16 for residents of the European Union).
We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under applicable age thresholds. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided personal information to third-party ad networks through our app without parental consent, please contact us immediately at service@jeweality.com so we can investigate and facilitate prompt deletion.
Global Privacy Rights (GDPR & CCPA/CPRA)
Depending on your geographic jurisdiction, you hold specific legal rights concerning your personal information:
Your European Union / UK Rights (GDPR)
- Right to Access: You have the right to request copies of personal data held about you. Because all test data is stored locally on your device, you already possess direct access to your data.
- Right to Erasure / Deletion: You have the right to erase all data by tapping "Clear All History" or uninstalling the app.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: You can withdraw ad personalization consent at any moment via the in-app "Privacy Options" menu.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: You may contact your local Data Protection Authority (DPA) regarding any privacy grievances.
Your California & US State Rights (CCPA / CPRA)
- Right to Know / Access: You may request the categories of personal data collected and shared.
- Right to Opt Out of "Sale" or "Sharing": We do not sell personal data for monetary payment. Under CCPA definitions, the use of third-party advertising cookies or identifiers may constitute a "sale" or "share". You can opt out directly using the "Privacy Options" setting in the app.
- Right to Non-Discrimination: We will never discriminate against you, alter testing features, or degrade performance because you exercised your privacy rights.
How to Reset or Delete Your Mobile Ad ID on Android
You can control or permanently delete your Android Advertising ID directly in your device operating system:
Android Settings > Google > Ads > Delete advertising ID (or Reset advertising ID).
Data Security
We take the security of your device and data seriously. Security safeguards implemented in Refresh Rate Checker include:
- Sandboxed Android Architecture: Local databases and preferences reside inside private application sandboxes where other non-system applications cannot read them.
- Transport Layer Security (HTTPS): All external network calls executed by the Google AdMob and Google UMP SDKs are strictly encrypted in transit using industry-standard TLS/HTTPS protocols.
- ProGuard / R8 Code Obfuscation & Minification: Our production release builds are protected with aggressive code optimization and symbol obfuscation to safeguard against tampering and reverse engineering.
